Changing Seasons

Catherine Brennan

With COVID restrictions starting to reduce, the long- awaited sunshine is brightening our days and the May Bank Holiday within arms reach we can start to celebrate Spring. This is such an exciting time of year when we observe everything around us bursting back into life. Here, in New Forest we have been blessed with the new life of foals, lambs and baby birds. The trees are showing buds, rhododendrons and camellias have blossomed with beautiful flowers and the grass is looking fresh and lush.

Spring was my mother, Lucy's, favourites season and it is easy to see why. Although it may seem overwhelming at first, seeing and talking to people face-to-face and being part of the awakening of the world after months of short dark days. However, this Spring is something to behold.

As the name suggests, now is a great time to embark on a Spring clean. Home renovations and small changes can be invited to reflect the change of seasons and bring Spring inside the home. Small changes can have a big impact and are simple and enjoyable to implement. On your next walk collect some small wispy tree branches and paint them in your favourite colour. Next pop then into a vase wrapped in some battery powered fairy lights for a gorgeous handmade magical touch.

This is also the perfect season to transform your windows by opting for light voiles or linen, cotton roman blinds and soft pastel coloured fabric cushions. Added interest can come in the shape of intricate trim or beading. For the finishing touch add a co-ordinating throw. If you really want an impactful change, you could renovate the entire room for a completely new look.
